Completed in 2008, Villa Mary was designed by IXI Designs and built by Starocon NV to an uncompromising standard: poured-concrete construction, a concrete and French-tile roof, Dutch Iroko hardwood doors and windows, and 16 mm layered glass. It came through Hurricane Irma in 2017 without damage. The main living level is designed for effortless entertaining: a grand living room opening onto a fabulous veranda, a European-designed gourmet kitchen with Paolo Ponti cabinetry, granite countertops and a spacious island, a games room with a pool table, and one bedroom suite. The lower level is almost a residence of its own, with four further bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms, a fully equipped second kitchen, an additional living room and balcony, the infinity pool and a two-car garage. Together, the two levels offer a rare combination of privacy, space and flexibility for family living, entertaining, or the whole house as one.
What truly sets Villa Mary apart is its self-sufficiency and security. A 17 kVA generator with automatic transfer supplies the entire residence in the event of a utility interruption, two cisterns hold 80 cubic metres of water alongside the city supply, and the whole house is air-conditioned, with the units discreetly positioned on the roof to preserve the clean lines of the terraces. The alarm system is connected to a monitoring service in Philipsburg, the camera surveillance can be monitored remotely, and the reinforced sliding doors carry three anti-break-in locks each.
